Our bolga baskets are handmade in farming villages in the Bolgatanga region of northern Ghana, and are perhaps the best known of all African baskets. They are woven from durable elephant grass Each purchase helps provide the farmers and weavers in the region with a sustainable way of living. We love seeing our designs come to life through the skill of our artisans. Size: 9" W *Sizes are approximate and will vary from basket to basket -These baskets are condensed for shipping and need to be re-shaped upon arrival, we do this to significantly reduce shipping costs.
To reshape your bolga basket, we recommend spraying with or submerging in cold water (keeping the leather above the waterline) and using your fist to mould the bottom into a circular shape. Allow to dry in the sun.
Heddle & Lamm's products not only look great in your home, but they also allow you to give back to the communities where these products are made. Many children in Africa do not attend school simply because they do not have the means to do so, together we can change that! This school year we are actively sponsoring 32 scholarships of both primary and secondary students in Ghana.
We work directly with the artisans that make our products and are committed to fair trade practices and ensuring that our weavers and artisans are well compensated.
